Some moments in life arrive so unexpectedly that they stay with us forever.
One quiet night, I woke up to my phone vibrating nonstop. There were 17 missed calls, all from a number I hadn’t seen in over a year—a number that once belonged to my younger daughter, Helen.
My heart immediately raced.
Helen had chosen that phone number herself when she turned sixteen. She proudly saved it in every family member’s phone under one simple word: Dad.

The funeral.
The empty chair at family dinners.
The birthdays that felt incomplete.
Then my phone buzzed once more.
A new text message appeared.
“I’m still waiting. Where are you?”
My hands shook as I opened the screen.
The number was the same.
Answering the Call
A few moments later, the phone rang again.
This time, I answered.
On the other end was a young woman crying.
“Dad… Dad…”
She repeated the word several times, her voice filled with fear.
When she paused, I gently replied,
“I’m sorry… I think you’ve reached the wrong person.”
There was silence.
Then she explained what had happened.
